A Word from the Project Director

Mr. Aijuka Rodgers shares his testimony of how Rap Tech Institute was started and why and how CSDP started. This is to encourage his fellow youth who are still fearing to start.
After completing my first degree from Kyambogo University in July 2007, I went to Ntungamo town in Ntungamo District my home town and started a business of computer service after spending two months in Ntungamo. I started with an initial capital of 500,000= (five hundred Uganda shillings). This money was used to purchase a reconditioned computer (400,000=), and to pay rent (100,000=) for one month for the room that I was to use for the business. The business started providing computer repair services, typing and printing services (though did not have a printer, but would type and print from other people’s businesses and share the money), burning music to CD. The business later pioneered the provision of internet services to the Ntungamo community after installing internet. The business also started providing computer training services from which the idea of starting and institution was developed after many people had liked our computer training services. Rap Tech Institute was started on 1st June 2009.
In June 2011, as I was touring Muriisa Village which is my home village and in Butare parish in Ntungamo Sub-County, Ruhaama County and in Ntungamo District here in Uganda, I realized that poverty levels were at increase in families. I realized that the families that were better off when we were still young were becoming poorer and poorer. This made me rush to my then sub-county councilor to the district who also happened to come from Muriisa Village. I discussed with Mr. Mugabe Sam and I proposed to him that we organize a three days business and entrepreneurship training for our home people which he accepted. In July 2011 we organized a three days workshop which was held at Muriisa Church of Uganda. The workshop at Muriisa Church of Uganda was preceded by a tour to Sheema and Bushenyi Districts where participants of the workshop raised money for transport and lunch for the tour. The tour was intended to visit other people that were carrying out income generating projects and that were ahead of our area in development. The tour was very successful and participants of the tour realized the need to work very hard.
This was preceded by organizing a two days business and entrepreneurship workshop for the staff and students of Rap Tech Institute but the number of students was still small in 2011. Early 2012, the number of Institute students increased so much after shifting to a new location. A six day’s business and entrepreneurship workshop was organized for institute students and staff. After the workshop, I compiled a book that I titled “Business and Entrepreneurship Formula for the Youth (BEFY)”
I shared the ideas of the Business and Entrepreneurship Formula for the Youth with the First Lady of Uganda who is also my area Member of Parliament and she sponsored a one week’s business and entrepreneurship workshop for 200 youth from Ruhaama County her constituency in February 2013. Great thanks to Maama Janet Museveni for her motherly love for the youth of Uganda. The training was very successful and many of the youth that participated in the workshop have moving testimonies.
